John Church graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1970. His major was history, with emphasis on China and Japan. While in the Air Force, he began taking photographs of people and still scenes during assignments and vacations in Asia and Europe. His use of a Konica T and T3 35mm SLR (film) camera and his preference for black and white photographs reflects a reluctance to move as quickly as much of contemporary America.

John has successfully competed in Air Force photograph contests, displayed his photos at White Hall, London, provided photographs of Japanese potters to the Honolulu Academy of Arts, exhibited at Borders Books, the Center for the Creative Arts, and the Love Point Café, in conjunction with Jeanne Noble of Artists at Work.

John is a member of the Chesapeake Art League, the Stevensville
