Michael I. Church, “Over the Hill”

Mike Church graduated from Saint Mary’s College of Maryland in 2004. His major was history, with a minor in East Asian Studies. In September 2004, Mike and three of his college friends embarked on a twelve month long bike trip which began in Amsterdam. They biked through Albania, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, India, Nepal, Thailand, Laos, China, and Kyrgyzstan. He completed a second bike trip, of six months duration in 2006 which took him from Istanbul to Ulan Batar. Mike also shoots a 35mm SLR using film.

Mike has exhibited photos with his father at the Love Point Café, and at the Center for Creative Arts, where on two occasions photos from his trips received “Honorable Mention.” In 2007, Mike and a friend received the “Lowell Thomas Award” (silver) for their article “Cycling the Silk Road,” which was published by Slate, the on-line magazine.

Mike is a member of the Chesapeake Art League, the Stevensville

Co-op, and Center for the Creative Arts, Yorklyn, Delaware.
